5 Ways to Get Unstuck and Achieve Your Dreams

Regardless of the type of work you do, you probably have dreams you want to achieve. And you probably heave a plan to get there.

But, have you ever felt stuck, even though you know what you want to create?

Day-to-day life can keep us busy (and distracted). Then, when we slow down enough to look ahead, achieving our dreams and goals may feel overwhelming. Our thoughts take us to all the things we need to do, and the list can seem endless. We think if we knew more, did more, or were just plain “more,” it would be easier to manifest our goals and dreams. Aside from the effort it may take, there’s an inner component that can help you get unstuck and back on track. The truth is that every one of us is enough—it’s just a matter of knowing it at a deep level.

Today we’re sharing 5 ways to connect you with your true self, get unstuck, and fulfill your dreams.

1. Let Old Stories Go

Have you ever held onto a story about yourself that kept you from doing something you wanted to do?

The beliefs we hold about ourselves are often created in our past and yet they show up in our present, especially if we were told at one time that we weren’t good at something, or had an experience where we concluded we couldn’t do something. But here’s the thing, whatever story you hold about not being able to do something based on a past experience — it’s from the past. It only comes into the present through our thoughts. And when we believe those thoughts, the past happens all over again.

One of my favorite examples of this is that I’ve always believed that I couldn’t sell. I had a huge story around it. “Selling is hard, no one would want to buy from me, I’m too shy, and in my family upbringing, it wasn’t a noble profession.” I struggled with this.

Through the process of actually having a sales job, I finally, consciously let go of my story because I had evidence in front of me that it wasn’t true. The shift was remarkable. I’m actually really good at connecting, listening, and providing what my clients need for their businesses. In short—I’m great at sales. Discovering this was liberating! I learned that I can honor my past life experiences as part of me, but that they’re in my past. I’m the only one that brings them into my present.

2. Be Present in the Moment

Just like letting go of old stories that hold us back, being present in the moment can unleash endless potential. I was watching a video with Barb Patterson, a business coach, and something she said struck me in a profound way. She was talking about potential, and she essentially said that our potential is not informed by our past. In fact, our past does not affect our potential. Potential is in the present moment. (Wow!) That really resonated with me.

So along with the many benefits of being in the moment, knowing that being present is filled with boundless potential regardless of our past experiences makes letting go of old stories even easier. And when we do that, our dreams are more accessible5 Ways to Get Unstuck and Achieve Your Dreams.

3. Listen Beyond your Thoughts

We can think about things to death. Our analytical minds can spend hours dissecting problems, and what we think we need to do about them.

Yet it’s when we get still and listen beyond the chatter in our minds that insight comes. As humans, we have anywhere from 50,000–70,000 thoughts per day. So when we listen beyond them, we connect with our true selves. Clarity comes through and our next steps appear.

Learn to let your thoughts come and go, knowing that what you need will come forward.

4. Notice What Feels Good

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I forget to tap into what makes me feel good because I’m so busy doing what I think I “have to do.” As I’ve learned to be present with what I do, I recognize that I feel good a lot. In these moments, I’m in my flow, and even mundane tasks become part of that flow.

It’s easy to ignore what feels good, but when something you’re doing or the way you’re being feels good, you’re on the right path. When you connect to those moments, you’re moving towards your innate well being. Feeling stuck evaporates, and you manifest your dreams with greater ease.

5. Show Up

All the above are ways to look within and pay attention to what you’re experiencing in the moment. But here’s the thing, as much as letting go of old stories, being present, listening beyond your thoughts, and noticing what feels good will move you towards your dreams and goals, you still need to act.

Show up and be open to opportunities that come your way. Say “yes” to new things, even if they’re uncomfortable. Be okay with it. After all, the discomfort will pass. Just as my discomfort with sales passed once I let go and did it. When you show up, even when you’re not sure what to say or do, what you need will come forward, allowing you to step into the potential of the moment.

  1. Some good advice here, Alex! Learning to let thoughts come and go without getting overly invested in them is something I’ve recently recognized as a way to sidestep the worry vortex. I think being able to do this keeps me open to things as they come up, often in ways I wouldn’t have anticipated through my previous “over-thinking.” And staying open is good!

    1. Wow! That is great insight and I know what you mean. When thoughts come up that worry me, I may feel the worry, but when I don’t engage it passes much quicker. Often the worry I’m feeling has no real basis. It’s just my thoughts spinning out.
